What Are I/O Panels Used For?
I/O panels allow for simple cable connection between external cables and the contents of the custom case. They help to protect the inside of the case, and the contents, from any extreme temperatures, debris, moisture, shock impact, and dust. I/O panels make it so that you can use sensitive electronic equipment without needing to remove it from the custom case you designed.
What Do I/O Panels Consist Of?
I/O panels used on custom cases are types of bulkhead interfaces. They let the user connect and disconnect cables without much hassle or time. Depending on the electronic equipment inside of your custom case, the I/O panel can feature:
- AC or DC power
- Ethernet
- Fiber-optics
- RF communications
- A display showing the internal temperature and ways of adjusting it
How is the I/O Panel Installed?
I/O panels are mounted in your custom case by cutting out a portion and weatherproofing the area with O-rings. These rings are securely fastened with jam nuts and lock washers. On the outside of your I/O panel, there are bulkhead connectors that have optional fittings or covers so that dust cannot enter. Inside, the other ends of the cables are attached to the electronic equipment inside. This allows for operation in a variety of environments, including dusty, moist, or incredibly hot ones. I/O panels give the contents of your custom case more flexibility.
