Many times, custom cases need to be designed in order to keep its cargo at a certain temperature. When it comes to regulating temperatures in custom cases, there are two variables we can work with. The color of a custom case can affect its heat absorption and the internal temperatures. The other important element to address is the materials which it is made from. If you’re looking to ship something, but need to keep it at a certain temperature, choosing the proper material can make all of the difference in getting the cargo to its destination safely. Here are the different materials you might think about using.
Wood
Although wood is pretty decent as an insulating material, it’s not very good at keeping internal temperatures stable. Wood is also susceptible to humidity damage, which is another factor to keep in mind when transporting delicate items. So, let’s count wood out and not use it for your custom case shipping needs.
Aluminum
While wood is very poor at keeping temperatures stable, aluminum is highly resistant to temperature change. Consider aluminum foil – if you’ve ever baked something on a cookie sheet with aluminum foil, you know just how highly resistant to heat it is.
Plastic
If designed properly and given the proper thickness, plastic can make a decent choice to regulate internal temperatures, but it is not the best choice. Usually, people who choose plastic for their custom case have to balance out other considerations, such as shock protection, with the need for temperature regulation.
Interior Insulation
For perishable cargo or extremely delicate materials, interior insulation is going to be required to help protect it no matter what material you use for the outer portion of the case. These insulating materials can keep heat in or out depending on your needs and can maintain the perfect temperature throughout the shipping process.
